Animal ID: 464261
Birthdate: September 03, 2016 - Adult
Timber was recently surrendered after being through 3 homes in his short life. He is a sweet, affectionate and happy go lucky boy, although due to lack of socialization and early training, Timber needs an experienced handler to help him meet his full potential.
Timber is reactive on leash towards other animals and some strangers. He is very unsure around other dogs, and although he would love to make friends and play, he lacks the skills to let them know. His initial reaction is loud and seems scary, but he's asking the other dog to leave him alone, as he is uncomfortable and fearful with them. When introduced to a social, friendly dog, Timber acts fearful and once he's comfortable he wants to play! Sadly, because of his skills, he simply does not know how to properly ask his canine companions to engage with him.
Timber will need a positive handler who can guide him through meeting others in a safe, friendly way. Correcting or punishing him in this situation will only help to make him fearful of his potential friends! Timber wants to learn that other dogs aren't scary, and we expect that he will go on to have a couple of solid friends who he can play with over time.
Timber knows his basic commands, is house trained (although will dribble when he's excited or saying hi) and crate trained.
Due to helping his socialization, Timber is not available for viewing without an approved application to a experienced, qualified home.
If you're a reward based trainer with a fondness for shepherds, this might be your guy!
