Position Title: Homeless Outreach Worker Wachiay Friendship Centre Society Mission: To build a strong community rooted in the philosophy and cultures of our peoples. Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Director, Homeless Prevention, the Homeless Outreach Worker delivers services mandated by HOP to marginalized people in the Comox Valley. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Client Support &amp Assessment Provide active referral and advocacy for clients to housing, medical, legal and other support agencies Collaborate with community partners to provide continuity of client care plans Provide accompaniment to client appointments where appropriate Perform client intake and maintain confidential client database and collect/record accurate statistics Tenancy Support Administer HOP Rent Supplement Liaise and build awareness with landlords Other Participate in planning, implementation and evaluation of the program Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated skills in client assessment and need through street level outreach Demonstrated experience working with marginalized population Strong interpersonal and communication skills Demonstrated knowledge of health and social service systems Ability to work independently, under pressure and in crisis situations Culturally aware, sensitive to equity issues Class IV Driver's License (minimum Class V) and First Aid Certificate are assets Training, Education and Experience Education required: Grade 12 supplemented with related courses. Experience preferred: minimum 3 years working with homeless or at risk of homelessness Training: training in mediation would be beneficial Critical Success Factors The Homeless Outreach Worker will have a substantial knowledge of the local housing market, local resources and the ability to deal with clients in crisis.
