About the Role Reporting to the Guardian Program Manager, the Junior Guardian will participate in the monitoring and protection of marine and terrestrial resources and habitats within the K’ómoks traditional territory. The community-based Guardian Program will have a presence throughout the territory and through their activities, the Junior Guardian will act as the eyes and ears on the water and land. Specifically, the Junior Guardian will monitor the impacts of resources used on the health of priority ecological and cultural values. They will monitor, report, and/or enforce violations to existing community policies as well as provincial and federal regulations. What you will need • Familiarity with resource management rules and regulations • Experience travelling throughout the territory, including by boat (specifically knowledge of navigating through rough terrain, turbulent waters) • Boating experience required (minimum 2 years) – Skipper experience is an asset • Knowledge of the local territory • Mechanical knowledge of inboard and outboard engines, including minor repairs, is an asset • Strong communication skills and with the ability to interact with visitors and resource users in a polite and positive manner • A Guardian Watchmen certification, or equivalent, is preferred • Swiftwater Rescue training is preferred • Valid BC Driver’s license • Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Working Conditions • This role will require the candidate to work primarily outdoors in different weather conditions, working near or in the water • The ability to work physically with the occasional need to work longer hours in a day Application Information: If this opportunity to work with a growing, indigenous organization appeals to you, please apply with your resume and cover letter.
